Apr 19, 2025

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed the federal government’s unwavering support to all provinces in building their capacity to fight terrorism, during a high-level security meeting.

The session, held to review the National Action Plan (NAP), included chief secretaries, police chiefs from all provinces, GB and AJK, officials from intelligence agencies, and federal ministers.

PM Shehbaz appreciated the efforts of security institutions and provincial authorities in countering terrorism and assured them of complete federal cooperation.

“The time for dialogue with terrorists is over. Now, the state must take a firm stance,” the PM said, reaffirming that the war against terrorism will end in the “crushing defeat” of such elements.

He also called for unity and cooperation across political lines — specifically urging the PTI-led KP government to work jointly against extremism.

Key directives from the meeting included:

Intensifying the crackdown against smuggling and human trafficking

Accelerating the Safe City projects in major cities

Strengthening intelligence and enforcement networks through NACTA

Curbing illegal construction and the spread of beggar mafias

Safe City projects are already operational in 10 cities of Punjab and are being implemented in major cities across Sindh and Balochistan. Plans for KP cities like Peshawar, D.I. Khan, and Bannu are underway, while Gwadar’s project will be completed soon.

The meeting highlighted the development of National and Provincial Intelligence Fusion Centres and digital enforcement stations to tackle cross-border smuggling and crime more efficiently.
