SAPM Haroon Akhtar Khan Inspires Suzuki’s Biogas Plant Initiative in Lahore, Backs Clean Energy Vision
LAHORE: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Haroon Akhtar Khan visited the proposed biogas plant site by Suzuki Pakistan in Manga Mandi, Lahore, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustainable energy under Prime Minister’s “Uraan Vision.” The project, hailed as a milestone for Pakistan’s green transition, aims to reduce fossil fuel reliance and boost rural economies.
Clean Energy Push Gains Momentum
During the visit, SAPM Khan praised Suzuki’s plan to establish a biogas facility for vehicles, calling it a “game-changer” for Pakistan’s energy landscape. “Biogas is the future—it cuts costly oil imports, supports farmers, and protects our environment,” he stated. The plant aligns with the government’s goal to prioritize renewable energy sources and achieve carbon neutrality.
Economic and Environmental Dual Benefits
Khan emphasized the project’s dual advantages:
- Economic uplift: Local farmers can supply organic waste for biogas production, creating new income streams.
- Environmental protection: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reliance on LNG/oil imports.
He directed stakeholders to expedite implementation, stressing the urgency of adopting eco-friendly solutions amid climate challenges.
Suzuki’s Hybrid Flexibility
Suzuki Pakistan’s Managing Director, Hiroshi Kawamura, highlighted the plant’s adaptability, noting vehicles could switch to petrol if biogas is unavailable. Khan assured full government support for such innovations, stating, “Pakistan stands with industries driving the shift to low-carbon technologies.”
Uraan Vision: A Roadmap for Sustainability
The SAPM reiterated that PM’s Uraan Vision prioritizes clean energy partnerships to ensure energy security and rural development. Projects like Suzuki’s biogas plant exemplify public-private collaboration critical for achieving these goals.
