Pahalgam Tensions Escalate: Pakistan Army Vows Decisive Response to Any Indian Aggression

May 2, 2025

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s military leadership has issued a stern warning to India, pledging a “sure and decisive” response to any attempt at military aggression, as tensions soar following the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Indian-occupied Kashmir.

The attack, which killed 26 people — mostly tourists — has reignited hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. India has hinted at cross-border involvement without presenting evidence, while Pakistan has categorically denied the allegations and called for an independent investigation.

Amid rising concerns of a possible Indian incursion, the Pakistan Army held a high-level Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) on Friday at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The meeting, led by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, focused on the evolving regional security landscape and the escalating standoff with India.

“Any Indian military misadventure will be met with a swift, resolute, and proportionate response,” warned Gen. Munir, emphasizing the military’s preparedness to defend the country at all costs.

In a detailed statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the forum reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace but underscored that sovereignty and territorial integrity would not be compromised.

Rising Tensions and Regional Stability at Risk

The military leadership expressed deep concern over India’s actions following the Pahalgam incident, including alleged atrocities in Kashmir and unprovoked firing across the Line of Control (LoC).

The CCC also criticized what it described as India’s recurring strategy of exploiting crises for political and military gains, drawing parallels with the Pulwama incident of 2019, which preceded the unilateral revocation of Article 370 by New Delhi.

“India’s deliberate attempts to destabilize the region — through misinformation, cross-border aggression, and support for proxies — will be confronted with clarity and resolve,” the ISPR added.

The statement also flagged India’s apparent move to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that any effort to divert rivers or weaponize water resources would be seen as an act of war.

“This dangerous provocation threatens the livelihood of over 240 million Pakistanis,” the ISPR warned, accusing India of attempting to distract from Pakistan’s focus on economic recovery and national development.

Pakistan Unites in Defense

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, speaking on Geo News, echoed the military’s stance and praised Gen. Munir’s leadership, noting that morale among troops and civilians remains high.

“India’s allegations are baseless and politically motivated,” said Asif. “There is no credible evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, and even Indian media and public figures are questioning the official narrative.”

Addressing concerns about the Indus Waters Treaty, Asif asserted that Pakistan would explore all legal and diplomatic avenues to safeguard its rights and resist any unilateral Indian actions.

“Any physical attempt to divert water flows from Kashmir will be met with firm retaliation — it will be treated as an act of war,” he stated.

Final Word from the Military

The CCC concluded with a message of unity, vigilance, and operational readiness across all formations of the Pakistan Armed Forces.

“The Armed Forces stand with unwavering resolve to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty — across all domains and against all threats,” the ISPR concluded.

As diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes, both nations remain on high alert. The international community is being urged to intervene and prevent further escalation in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
