He Royals are coming to Canada’s defense, as the country wards off threats from President Trump to make the Great White North the 51st state.
King Charles has accepted newly elected Prime Minister Mark Carney’s plea to travel to Canada – on the taxpayers’ dime – to give a speech that will open Canada’s new parliament session on May 27 – a highly unusual move aimed to send the message that Canada is not for sale.
“That clearly underscores the sovereignty of our country,” Carney said on May 2 during his first press conference after being elected. “This historic honor matches the weight of our times.”

While Carney leads Canada’s government, the country remains a British commonwealth and King Charles is the official head of state.
The rare command performance — the first time a monarch will open a new parliament session since 1857 — is no coincidence.
The king and the prime minister “became good friends” during Carney’s time as governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020, royal historian Carolyn Harris told The Post.
Carney led the British central bank’s response to Brexit.
And President Trump has made his admiration for the royal family known on many occasions, recently saying “I love King Charles.”
“President Trump has made it very clear that he has tremendous respect for the monarchy and considerable affection for the king himself,” said Justin Vovk, a royal historian with McMaster University in Ontario. “So that does provide the prime minister with an additional tool in negotiating with the president.”

“This is not something that Justin Trudeau ever did,” he added.
Carney played up the royal connection again this week in the Oval Office, saying he had “met with the owners of Canada” — in reference to Canada not being for sale – to which Trump answered, “never say never.”

Carney made the request to the king when he visited Buckingham Palace in March before Canada’s elections.
“It’s a great treat to see you again,” said Charles, wearing a red tie in a nod to the Canadian flag and his Order of Canada pin, as he greeted Carney.
“The Royal Family can’t make political statements – so what they wear is one of the best ways for them to show their support without saying anything,” Vovk said of Charles’ attire.

During Charles’ upcoming visit, Canadians will look for a number of symbols that might express royal support, and one in particular — whether Camilla will wear a diamond encrusted maple leaf brooch that belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
“That would be a deliberate show of support and solidarity with Canada,” said Vovk. “Nothing with the royal family happens by coincidence.”
