11 Soldiers Martyred, 78 Wounded While Defending Pakistan in Indian Attack: ISPR

May 13, 2025

ISLAMABAD, May 13, 2025 — The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday confirmed that 11 military personnel were martyred and 78 others wounded during Pakistan’s defence against India’s “unprovoked and reprehensible dastardly attacks” in the recent military escalation.

According to the military’s media wing, the confrontation began when India accused Pakistan of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, prompting a series of Indian airstrikes on the night of May 6-7 under Operation Sindoor, targeting civilian areas and military positions across Pakistan. The hostilities led to a week-long exchange of missiles and artillery between the nuclear-armed neighbours, culminating in a US-brokered ceasefire announcement on Saturday by President Donald Trump.

Additionally, 40 civilians, including seven women and 15 children, lost their lives, while 121 others were injured due to Indian shelling and missile strikes.

Operation Bunyanum Marsoos: Pakistan’s Response

In retaliation, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, a strategic counter-offensive under the banner of Marka-i-Haq, delivering “precise and elevated retributive strikes” against Indian military targets.

“The noble sacrifice of our martyrs is an enduring symbol of courage, devotion, and unwavering patriotism — etched forever in the nation’s memory,” the ISPR stated.
“Let there be no ambiguity: any attempt to challenge Pakistan’s sovereignty or territorial integrity shall be met with a swift, full-spectrum, and decisive response.”

The military offered prayers for the recovery of the wounded and expressed solidarity with the families of both civilian and military martyrs.

PM Declares Annual Day of Tribute

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces and civilians, announcing that May 10 will be observed annually as Youm-e-Marka-i-Haq to commemorate the success of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

“May 16, 2025, will be marked as a day of national tribute to our armed forces and a moment of collective prayer and gratitude to God for the victory and safety of our homeland,” said the Prime Minister in his statement.

As the dust begins to settle following the ceasefire, Pakistan’s military leadership has reiterated its commitment to national defence and readiness in the face of any future aggression. The sacrifices of those who laid down their lives are being honoured across the country as symbols of national resilience.
