Intense Heatwave Continues Nationwide; Lahore Temperature Reaches 43°C, Air Quality Unhealthy

Web Desk: Most parts of the country are currently experiencing a severe heatwave, while the heat intensity in Lahore has dangerously escalated. According to the Meteorological Department, there is no forecast of rain in the next 24 hours, and the weather is expected to remain extremely hot and dry.

Heat Intensity in Lahore Reaches Dangerous Levels, Temperature Expected to Hit 43°C

The current temperature in Lahore has been recorded at 32°C, with a minimum temperature forecast of 27°C. The Meteorological Department has warned that the temperature may rise to 42-43°C in the next 24 hours.

The wind speed in the city is recorded at just 6 km/h, failing to provide any relief from the scorching heat. Instead, the decreasing humidity levels are further aggravating the intensity of the heat.


Air Pollution Reaches Alarming Levels; Lahore Among Unhealthy Cities

Air pollution in Lahore is also reaching dangerous levels. According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), the pollution level in the city has been recorded at 152, which is categorized as “Unhealthy” as per international standards.

Health experts have advised citizens, especially those with respiratory, asthma, and heart conditions, to take special precautions. They are urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and to wear masks or adopt other protective measures.


Intense Heatwave Grips Other Cities Nationwide

The heatwave has also engulfed other parts of the country. The recorded temperatures in different cities are as follows:

  • Rahim Yar Khan: 46°C
  • Peshawar, Bahawalpur, Nawabshah: 44°C
  • Lahore: 43°C
  • Islamabad: 42°C
  • Rawalpindi: 41°C
  • Quetta: 38°C
  • Karachi: 37°C

The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the heatwave will persist until May 20, with temperatures likely to remain 5 to 7 degrees above normal.


Important Health Advisory for Citizens

Health experts have issued the following guidelines for citizens:

  • Avoid going outdoors unnecessarily during intense heat.
  • Cover your head and stay hydrated when stepping out in the sun.
  • Elderly, children, and those with medical conditions should exercise extra caution.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 11 AM and 4 PM.
