UK Foreign Secretary: Working with US, Gulf Nations to Make India-Pakistan Ceasefire Sustainable
David Lammy stresses need for confidence-building measures and adherence to international treaties like the Indus Waters Treaty
LONDON – British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said that the United Kingdom, in collaboration with the United States and Gulf countries, is actively working to help establish a permanent and sustainable ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
In an official statement, Lammy emphasized the importance of confidence-building measures (CBMs) to stabilize the ceasefire and promote long-term peace in the region. “Efforts are underway to strengthen trust between both sides so that peace can prevail across South Asia,” he noted.
He also highlighted ongoing UK-Pakistan cooperation in counter-terrorism, indicating that Britain remains committed to supporting regional stability through collaborative efforts.
Addressing India’s recent move to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, Lammy called on all involved parties to uphold international laws and agreements. He stressed that the Indus Waters Treaty is a vital international accord, and its compliance is essential for maintaining regional balance and peace.
“When it comes to international law, we urge all parties to respect treaties and legal commitments,” Lammy added, reinforcing the UK’s call for diplomatic responsibility and peaceful resolution of disputes.
