Russian Drones Attack Kyiv, Kill 3 Outside Capital, Strike Multiple Ukrainian Cities
KYIV – Russian drone and missile attacks early Sunday rocked Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities, killing three people outside the capital and injuring at least 11 in Kyiv itself, according to local officials.
Authorities in the Kyiv region confirmed that three fatalities occurred in two small towns just beyond the capital’s boundaries. Inside Kyiv, 11 people were injured, said Timur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration.
A five-storey residential building in the Holosiivskyi district was struck, sparking a fire and causing structural damage. Other strikes hit a private residence and a business centre in separate parts of the city.
The attack marks the second consecutive night of heavy bombardment on Kyiv. On Friday night, one of the largest aerial offensives of the war saw dozens of drones and ballistic missiles fired at the capital, injuring 15 people and damaging several apartment complexes.
Strikes Across Ukraine
The offensive extended beyond Kyiv, targeting several major cities across Ukraine:
- Kharkiv (northeast): Drones hit three districts, injuring three and blowing out windows in high-rise buildings, said Mayor Ihor Terekhov.
- Mykolaiv (south): A drone strike injured two people in a residential zone, according to the regional governor.
- Ternopil (west): A missile caused window damage and a small fire in the city.
- Konotop (north of Kyiv): Local officials reported a mass drone attack in the area.
Russia, Ukraine Claim Interceptions
While Ukraine struggled with the fallout from Russia’s latest assault, Russia also claimed it was under drone attack.
According to the Russian Defence Ministry, air defence systems intercepted or destroyed 95 Ukrainian drones over a span of four hours. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 12 Ukrainian drones were shot down en route to Russia’s capital.
