Russia Launches Record 479 Drones in Overnight Attack on Ukraine

Jun 9, 2025

In the largest aerial assault since the start of the war, Russia launched a record 479 drones at Ukraine overnight, according to Kyiv’s air force on Monday. The barrage, which affected multiple regions, marks a significant escalation in Moscow’s offensive as it continues to resist international calls for a ceasefire.

Ukraine’s air force reported drone strikes in 10 different areas, with Rivne’s mayor, Oleksandr Tretyak, calling it the most extensive attack on the western region to date.

Despite the scale of the assault, Ukraine successfully intercepted 460 of the drones and 19 out of 20 missiles, showcasing the resilience of its air defense forces. However, the sustained pressure has raised concerns about the long-term capacity of Ukraine’s defenses amid the prolonged conflict.

In a counter-strike, Ukraine said it targeted a Russian electronics factory responsible for manufacturing drone components. Russian local officials confirmed the strike, stating that production at the facility had to be temporarily halted.

Kyiv argues that the continued missile and drone attacks prove that Moscow is not committed to peace talks and is intensifying efforts to undermine Ukraine’s resistance as the war enters its third year.
