Ice Spice Joins ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants’ with Voice Role and Original Song
Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation have unveiled new cast members for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, set to hit theaters in December 2025. Among the fresh additions is rapper Ice Spice, who will not only voice a character but also contribute an original track to the film’s soundtrack.
Joining her are Regina Hall, Sherry Cola, Arturo Castro, and George Lopez. They will appear alongside the returning original voice cast, including Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), and Mark Hamill, who reprises his role as the ghostly Flying Dutchman.
Directed by Derek Drymon and written by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman, the new SpongeBob installment follows the beloved characters as they confront an undersea supernatural threat led by the Flying Dutchman.
Ice Spice’s involvement comes as a natural extension of her 2022 hit Bikini Bottom, a track inspired by the SpongeBob universe. Initially met with online humor for its cartoonish tones, the song ultimately became a viral hit, helping cement her presence in pop culture.
This latest project positions Ice Spice alongside other global artists making their mark in animation, including Rihanna, who will voice Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs film. The announcement was made at the Annecy International Animation Festival, where Paramount previewed several of its upcoming animated titles.
With its December release, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants promises a blend of nostalgic appeal and contemporary star power—offering something for fans old and new.
