Pakistan Poised for Economic Take-Off: PM Shehbaz

Jun 10, 2025

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday declared that Pakistan’s economy is back on track and entering a “take-off position,” crediting the sacrifices of the salaried class and the efforts of government institutions for recent economic gains.

While chairing a federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed optimism over improving economic indicators and outlined his vision to overtake India economically, following what he termed a historic victory in conventional warfare.

“After defeating India in a conventional war, we now need to surpass it in the economic field as well,” the Prime Minister asserted. “Such opportunities arise only once in a century. The entire nation is united.”

Salaried Class Lauded for Economic Resilience

PM Shehbaz highlighted the burden carried by the salaried class, noting that they contributed Rs400 billion to the national treasury in the last budget cycle. He praised their role in stabilising the economy amid unprecedented fiscal challenges.

“The common man and salaried individuals have borne immense pressure. Their sacrifices have enabled Pakistan to reach a point of economic readiness,” he stated, urging the wealthy and elite to contribute their fair share.

Positive Economic Indicators

The Prime Minister cited decreasing inflation, a lowered policy rate, rising exports, and growing foreign exchange and IT revenues as signs that Pakistan is regaining fiscal strength.

“All institutions have played a role in this success. Now is the time to focus on growth. With unity and determination, we can move forward together,” he said.

Water Disputes and National Resolve

Touching on India’s alleged attempts to weaponise water, PM Shehbaz vowed to protect Pakistan’s water rights.

“We will not allow India to disrupt our water supply. Every drop that belongs to Pakistan will be secured,” he said, noting ongoing consultations with all four provinces to address water disputes.

Support for Palestine and Kashmir

The Prime Minister strongly condemned the ongoing violence in Palestine and Indian-occupied Kashmir, calling it the “worst form of oppression in modern times.” He urged the international community to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

“The children, women, and innocent people being killed in Palestine is an unbearable tragedy. Pakistan stands firmly with the people of Palestine and Kashmir in their fight for freedom.”

A Call for Unity and Hard Work

Concluding his remarks, PM Shehbaz stressed that the time is ripe for Pakistan to move forward, urging all segments of society to work together.

“This moment is historic. We must not waste it. With unity, we can achieve economic victory just as we’ve shown our strength on the battlefield,” he said, while also appreciating the Finance Ministry’s efforts in budget preparation.
