Global Condemnation Mounts Over US Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
China, Türkiye, Russia, and Spain call for restraint and diplomatic resolution to prevent further escalation
BEIJING / ANKARA / MOSCOW / MADRID – June 2025:
The United States is facing mounting international criticism following its missile strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities early Sunday, as several global powers—including China, Türkiye, Russia, and Spain—issued strong rebukes and urged a return to diplomacy amid fears of further escalation in the Middle East.
China: “Grave Violation of International Law”
In a sharply worded statement, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the US attacks as a “serious breach” of international norms and the UN Charter.
“The actions of the U.S. seriously violate the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law,” the Chinese statement said, warning that the strikes would only worsen tensions in the region.
Beijing urged Israel and other involved parties to pursue a ceasefire and resume dialogue. China also reiterated its readiness to work with the international community to “uphold justice and restore peace and stability” in the Middle East.
Türkiye: “All Parties Must Act Responsibly”
Echoing similar concerns, Türkiye condemned the US military action and called for de-escalation.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that diplomatic dialogue remains the only viable path forward, warning that any further military provocations could trigger uncontrollable consequences.
“All parties must act responsibly. Dialogue is the only way to resolve this dispute and ensure regional stability,” he said.
Russia: “Flagrant Breach of Sovereignty”
Moscow issued one of the strongest responses, accusing Washington of engaging in reckless and unlawful aggression.
“The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks—regardless of the justification—blatantly violates international law, the United Nations Charter, and relevant Security Council resolutions,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Russia called for an immediate end to hostilities and renewed diplomatic efforts to contain the conflict.
Spain: “Military Solutions Will Not Bring Peace”
In a measured response, Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares Bueno expressed concern about the escalating confrontation and urged calm.
“It is not a military solution that will bring peace and stability to the Middle East, but diplomacy,” he said in an interview with Spanish broadcaster RTVE. “We hope all parties will return to the negotiating table before the situation spirals further.”
Growing International Anxiety
The US airstrikes—targeting Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—have triggered fears of a broader regional war, especially as Iran has vowed retaliation and labelled the attack a “joint operation” between Washington and Tel Aviv.
With key global players lining up against further military escalation, pressure is building on Washington to clarify its endgame and on the United Nations to convene an emergency session.
