Imran Khan Conditionally Approves K-P Budget After Jail Briefing: Barrister Saif

Jun 25, 2025

Adiala Jail / Peshawar — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has conditionally approved the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) budget for the upcoming fiscal year, following a detailed in-person briefing by provincial adviser Barrister Saif.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with Khan at Adiala Jail, Saif said the former prime minister was thoroughly briefed on the province’s financial situation, constitutional obligations, and political hurdles, particularly the opposition’s alleged attempt to block the budget’s passage.

“I conveyed all the points raised by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Muzzammil Aslam. After hearing everything, Imran Khan gave his approval,” Saif said.

According to Saif, Khan was informed of the constitutional risks and potential governance paralysis that could have occurred if the budget was not passed within the legally mandated time. “Such delays could have led to salary disruptions and essential services breakdowns,” he explained.

Saif also shared that Khan had been briefed about an alleged opposition meeting at the Governor House, where a strategy was reportedly devised to block the budget. The failure to pass the budget, he warned, could have triggered a governance crisis in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Separately, Aleema Khanum, Imran Khan’s sister, said the PTI founder expressed concern over being left out of the initial consultation. “He conditionally approved it but said the budget should not have been finalized without his input,” she told reporters.

The K-P budget is critical for the PTI-led provincial government, which is navigating both political challenges and administrative pressures.
