Google Launches ‘Doppl’ App to Revolutionize Online Shopping with AI Outfit Try-Ons

Jun 27, 2025

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA —
Google has quietly dropped a game-changing fashion app called Doppl, bringing futuristic virtual try-ons directly to users’ smartphones—and reshaping how we shop for clothes online.

Now available for iOS and Android users in the U.S., Doppl allows shoppers to upload a full-body image of themselves and virtually “try on” any outfit using AI-generated visuals—not just still images, but animated previews that simulate how the clothes would move and fit in real life.

How It Works

The app, developed under Google Labs, turns user photos into custom digital avatars. Users can then overlay outfits—sourced from anywhere, including social media screenshots or thrift shop finds—onto their virtual selves. Doppl takes it a step further by producing AI-generated videos of the outfits in motion, giving a more realistic sense of how clothing flows, fits, and behaves on the body.

Users can:

  • Save favorite looks
  • Keep a personal archive of try-ons
  • Share styled avatars with friends or on social platforms

In a blog post, Google explained that Doppl builds on its ongoing virtual try-on technology available through Google Shopping, which currently showcases apparel on a variety of preset model types. However, Doppl is the first standalone platform that personalizes the experience using the user’s own image.

An AI Fashion Playground—With Limits

Google emphasizes that Doppl is still experimental. As with many AI tools in early stages, there may be inconsistencies in fit, texture, and appearance of clothing in the generated images or videos.

“As a Google Labs experiment, Doppl is in its early days and it might not always get things right,” the company said.

Despite these limitations, the move signals a broader push by Google to position itself at the intersection of AI, fashion, and immersive commerce. Doppl could help collect valuable user data and feedback to refine future AI applications in retail and digital shopping environments.

Next for Doppl?

For now, Doppl is only available in the United States, and Google has not commented on potential international expansion. Still, the debut of Doppl suggests Google is eyeing a future where AI-driven fashion personalization is a standard feature of online shopping—blurring the line between e-commerce, social media, and self-expression.

Whether you’re planning your next wardrobe refresh or just want to see what that viral outfit might look like on you, Doppl brings a playful, high-tech twist to the fitting room experience—no changing room required.
