Jun 27, 2025

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has changed the powerplay law in T20 cricket.

The ICC has set the powerplay overs per over in the new rule and the new powerplay rule will be implemented from July.

According to the new law, in a game of less than 20 overs, the powerplay can start or end in the middle of the overs.
The powerplay will continue to consist of 6 overs in a full 20-over innings. An attempt has been made to keep the powerplay close to 30% of the scheduled overs of the innings.

The powerplay in an 8-over innings will consist of 2.2 overs, while in a 5-over innings the powerplay will consist of 1.3 overs, during which two fielders will remain outside the circle.

The ICC Cricket Committee has given final approval to the changes in the powerplay rules.
