US Envoy, Interior Minister Discuss Regional Security and Bilateral Cooperation
ISLAMABAD:
Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker held a high-level meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday to discuss key areas of mutual interest, including regional security, counterterrorism, and deepening US-Pakistan relations.
Ambassador Baker reiterated Washington’s commitment to strengthening ties with Islamabad, stating, “Pakistan remains a vital partner for the United States. We look forward to further enhancing our cooperation across various sectors.”
The meeting emphasized the shared vision of both nations to promote peace and stability in the region through sustained dialogue, strategic collaboration, and proactive counterterrorism efforts.
Discussions covered a wide range of issues, including anti-narcotics cooperation, transnational threats, and ongoing security challenges. Both officials acknowledged the need for close strategic coordination to address evolving global and regional threats.
A key topic was the recent engagement between Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and former US President Donald Trump. Minister Naqvi described the meeting as a positive development for bilateral defense and diplomatic ties.
Naqvi also commended Trump’s diplomatic efforts in the Middle East, particularly his role in facilitating ceasefires between Iran and Israel, and earlier between Pakistan and India.
“President Trump’s sincere and extraordinary leadership in brokering regional peace will be remembered. We also hope for his success in helping secure a ceasefire in Gaza,” Naqvi stated, reaffirming Pakistan’s stance on resolving conflicts through diplomacy.
Ambassador Baker appreciated Pakistan’s peace-driven initiatives and reaffirmed US support for regional stability through mutual cooperation.
