CTD Foils Suicide Attack in Peshawar, Kills Afghan Bomber and Handler
In a critical security breakthrough, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) successfully foiled a suicide bombing attempt in Peshawar, killing both the Afghan suicide bomber and his handler in a gunfight. The operation took place in the Shamshato Armard area following actionable intelligence about a planned attack by the banned militant outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The suicide bomber, Munir Ahmed, who infiltrated from Khost, Afghanistan, was planning to strike a sensitive installation in the city. His handler, also of Afghan origin, was eliminated alongside him during the confrontation with CTD forces.
Authorities recovered a suicide vest, a submachine gun with rounds, a pistol, and a significant cache of explosives from the scene. The CTD confirmed Munir had been under surveillance since November 2024 and was a wanted fugitive with known ties to TTP’s operational wing.
Officials have registered a case at the CTD Police Station in Peshawar. A specialized investigation team is now working to trace the broader network supporting the foiled plot, including identifying any local handlers or accomplices.
The CTD hailed the operation as a major success, saying it likely prevented a devastating terror attack and reaffirmed their commitment to eradicating terrorism from the region.
