Section 144 Imposed in Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan & Chaghi Amid Monsoon Emergency
In response to heavy monsoon rains and looming flood threats, authorities in Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan (RYK), and Chaghi have declared a rain emergency and imposed Section 144 in their respective districts. The move bans swimming and restricts public access to water bodies to prevent casualties and ensure public safety.
In Rahim Yar Khan, Deputy Commissioner Khurram Pervez issued a formal notification enforcing Section 144 across the district’s revenue limits. The 30-day ban covers swimming in rivers, canals, and pools, reflecting concern over rising water levels and fast currents due to monsoon downpours.
Meanwhile, Chaghi’s administration has declared a high alert, banning visits to picnic spots, drains, and nullahs. Control rooms have been activated in Dalbandin and Taftan to monitor the situation round the clock. Deputy Commissioner Chaghi urged residents to remain cautious, limit movement, and avoid misinformation or unofficial reports.
Similarly, in Rawalpindi, Section 144 will be in effect from June 28 to July 27. Authorities have banned swimming and recreational water activities in nullahs, especially near Lai Nullah, a flood-prone area. Citizens have been warned that violations will result in strict legal action. The decision followed serious concerns raised during a District Intelligence Committee meeting.
All three administrations have advised residents to take precautionary measures and remain alert during the ongoing monsoon spell. Emergency services, including the Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and health departments, have been placed on high alert in the affected districts.
