Pakistan has achieved a historic victory by defeating 62-ranked Indonesia 0-2 in its second match in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, its first international victory since September 2023.
Pakistan showed full discipline against the host team in the Group D match of the Asian Cup Qualifiers in Indonesia
World No. 95 Indonesia failed to score a goal against Pakistan, ranked 157th in the world, despite having 63 percent possession of the ball. Pakistan goalkeeper Ziana Jivraj played a key role in this, stopping at least eight Indonesian attacks.
Pakistan took the lead in the 8th minute of the match when Nadia Khan’s kick was saved by the Indonesian goalkeeper, who failed to stop the ball and it went into the net.
This was Nadia Khan’s fifth goal of her international career. Ten minutes later, Pakistan were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Soha Hirani to make it 0-2.
Indonesia then tried hard to get back into the match. The Indonesian players had 20 shots on the Pakistani goalposts, of which 8 were on target.
But Pakistan’s defenders and goalkeeper Ziana Jivraj put in a great performance to keep Indonesia from scoring and keep a clean sheet.
This is Pakistan’s first international victory since September 2023, before which Pakistan last defeated Laos in September 2023. The Pakistan team will play its final group match against Kyrgyzstan on July 5 in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
