PTI Activist Sanam Javed Freed Following LHC Order in Anti-State Case

Jul 2, 2025

Sanam Javed, a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist, was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail on Wednesday after the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered her release earlier this week. Her release marks a development in a case involving allegations of anti-state sloganeering and inciting public unrest.

According to media reports, a large group of PTI supporters gathered outside the jail to receive her, showering her with rose petals as she walked free. After her release, Sanam Javed returned to her residence.

She was arrested on April 27 along with her husband, Professor Atiq, near the jail premises shortly after appearing before the court in connection with the May 9 protest cases. Over the past year, Sanam has been detained multiple times on charges linked to PTI-led protests and alleged involvement in the unrest that erupted following Imran Khan’s arrest.

Her most recent detention stemmed from a First Information Report (FIR) registered at Islampura police station, where she was accused of blocking roads, chanting inflammatory slogans, and inciting actions against the state. FIR No. 486, dated February 8, also named several other PTI figures, including Alia Hamza, Nazia Baloch, and Intizar Hussain Panjotha, as well as 35 unnamed individuals.

The Lahore High Court, after reviewing the case, found insufficient grounds to justify her continued detention, leading to the order for her release.
