Interior Minister Urges Scholars to Promote Peace Amid Security Alerts
ISLAMABAD | July 4, 2025 –
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday underscored the vital role of religious scholars in maintaining sectarian harmony and peace during Muharram, particularly ahead of Ashura (July 6).
Speaking during a high-level meeting with ulema from all sects, Naqvi expressed gratitude for their continued coordination with law enforcement and the government. He emphasized that both religious scholars and security agencies were pillars of national stability during sensitive religious observances.
“Your role is critical in keeping peace. We are thankful for the support of ulema from all schools of thought,” said Naqvi.
Also present were Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who echoed the call for unity and national security.
Security Strengthened Nationwide:
Army deployment, intelligence operations, and bans on inflammatory content are being enforced.
In Islamabad, 13 potential hotspots have been identified and 17 controversial ulema banned.
Call for Symbolic Unity on August 14:
Naqvi invited scholars to offer Zuhr prayer together at Faisal Mosque on Pakistan’s Independence Day to send a “message of unity” globally.
Terrorism in KP Addressed:
Naqvi called on ulema to counter extremist influence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, following a deadly attack in Bajaur that claimed five lives.
“Terrorism will only end when the local population refuses to support militants,” he warned.
Iran-Israel Ceasefire Mentioned:
Naqvi praised Pakistan’s behind-the-scenes role in helping bring about a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, calling it a diplomatic success for the Muslim world.
