ECP and NADRA Launch Joint Voter Registration Drive to Empower Women Voters in Punjab
LAHORE – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has launched Phase 5 of its Voter Registration Campaign across 25 districts in Punjab, with a strong focus on reducing the gender gap in voter rolls and increasing female voter participation.
Aimed at including unregistered and underserved populations, particularly women, the campaign utilizes mobile registration vans and local outreach methods to facilitate the issuance of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs)—a mandatory requirement for voter registration.
At the campaign’s official launch in Lahore, Provincial Election Commissioner Sharifullah highlighted the critical need to prioritize CNIC issuance for women.
“This campaign demands a coordinated effort among NADRA, ECP, civil society, and political stakeholders. Only by working collectively can we ensure full electoral participation for all eligible citizens—especially women,” said Sharifullah during a training session for field officials.
The ECP’s Gender Wing has designed the operational framework and is overseeing the campaign’s implementation across the province. The training session, held at the Provincial Election Commissioner’s Office, marks the first step in equipping field staff with the tools necessary for effective public engagement.
The joint initiative reflects a broader strategy to improve electoral inclusivity, strengthen democracy, and ensure free and fair elections through equitable voter representation.
