Iran Reopens National Airspace After Ceasefire with Israel

Jul 4, 2025

TEHRAN – Iran on Thursday officially reopened its airspace, including over Tehran, following a near month-long closure due to escalating hostilities with Israel, according to state-run media.

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that major airports — including Mehrabad and Imam Khomeini International Airports in Tehran, and others across the north, east, west, and south of the country — have resumed operations and are now ready to handle both domestic and international flights.

Flight operations at all airports, with the exception of Isfahan and Tabriz, will run between 5:00 am and 6:00 pm, authorities stated. Flights from those two cities are expected to resume once required infrastructure and safety protocols are restored.

Iran had completely shut down its airspace on June 13, following a wave of Israeli airstrikes that led to Iranian retaliatory missile launches, intensifying fears of broader regional conflict.

A ceasefire between Iran and Israel came into effect on June 24, leading to gradual restoration of airspace access, starting in eastern Iran, where international overflights were permitted prior to Thursday’s nationwide reopening.

The reopening marks a key step toward restoring regional air traffic stability and reviving commercial aviation activities that were disrupted during the military escalation.
