Russian Navy Deputy Chief Mikhail Gudkov Killed in Ukrainian Attack

Moscow: The Russian military has confirmed that Major General Mikhail Gudkov, the deputy chief of the Russian Navy, was killed in an attack in the Kursk region near the Ukrainian border.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, he was killed in combat. Gudkov was appointed to this high military position by President Vladimir Putin in March 2025.
According to sources, the attack was carried out on a Russian command post near the town of Korenevo in Kursk, which is just 30 kilometers from the Sumy region of Ukraine, according to unconfirmed reports, it was a Ukrainian missile attack.

The governor of the Primorsky region, Oleg Kozmyakov, confirmed in his Telegram message that another 10 Russian soldiers had also been killed in the attack, calling Gudkov a loyal and brave officer.
Mikhail Gudkov previously commanded the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, which has been engaged in fierce fighting in eastern Ukraine and later in the Kursk region.

He was awarded Russia’s highest military award, the Gold Star Hero, in late 2023, which he received from President Putin in the Kremlin in February 2025.
