Nairobi: Protests were held in Kenya to mark the 35th anniversary of the historic pro-democracy march, with people also gathering in Nairobi to protest.
Police baton-charged protesters who had gathered in the capital, firing, tear gas shells and water cannons were used to disperse them. Several protesters were injured and several were arrested due to police violence.
In Nairobi, a heavy police presence has been deployed at Parliament, government buildings and major highways in anticipation of the protests.
It should be recalled that the people of Kenya marched on July 7, 1990, demanding multi-party democracy.
