
ICC: Harry Brook becomes number one Test batsman
The ICC has released its new Test and ODI player rankings, which feature several major changes in the batting, bowling and all-rounder categories.
England batsman Harry Brook, who played a brilliant innings of 158 runs in the Edgbaston Test, has snatched the title of the world’s number one batsman in Test cricket from Joe Root.
In the latest rankings, Brook has risen to the top by a margin of 18 points, while Joe Root has moved to second place.
Indian captain Shubman Gill has moved up to a career-best sixth position after playing two brilliant innings of 269 and 161 in the Edgbaston Test, ahead of Kane Williamson (third), Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth) and Steve Smith (fifth).
England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith has moved up 16 places to enter the top 10 after playing unbeaten innings of 184 and 88 against India, moving up 16 places to 10th.
South Africa’s Wayne Mulder scored an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe and declared the team’s innings at 626/5, even though he had the chance to break Brian Lara’s world record.
His impressive performance has taken him up 12 places to third in the all-rounders’ rankings. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja continues to top the Test all-rounders’ rankings.
