ISLAMABAD – July 11: A 28-year-old woman, Sania Bibi, who was brutally tortured and set on fire by her in-laws, succumbed to her injuries at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on Thursday, after battling for her life for a month.

According to police reports, Sania had suffered 70–80% burn injuries when she was brought to the hospital. Prior to being set ablaze, she was severely beaten, with visible signs of trauma to her head and body.

On June 9, Sania managed to register a First Information Report (FIR) at Karpa Police Station, accusing her husband Adil Mahmood and father-in-law Mustasib of the heinous act. She alleged that the two tortured her physically and then poured petrol on her before setting her alight.

Despite receiving treatment for over a month at PIMS, the extensive nature of her burns led to multiple organ failure, resulting in her death.

Police sources confirm that an investigation is underway, and both accused are being pursued under serious criminal charges related to domestic violence, attempted murder, and now homicide.

This tragic incident has sparked renewed public outcry over domestic abuse and violence against women in Pakistan. Rights activists have called for swift justice and stricter enforcement of laws protecting women from domestic cruelty.

Authorities have assured that legal proceedings will continue and all those responsible will be brought to justice.
