India’s Mohammed Siraj Fined for Aggressive Send-Off to Duckett at Lord’s
LONDON — Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has been fined 15% of his match fee for delivering an aggressive send-off to England’s Ben Duckett during the third Test at Lord’s, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Monday.
The incident occurred during England’s second innings on Sunday when Siraj dismissed Duckett and proceeded to celebrate “excessively and in close proximity” to the batter — a violation of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Siraj was found to be in breach of Article 2.5, which pertains to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal during an international match.”
In addition to the financial penalty, one demerit point was added to Siraj’s disciplinary record. This marks his second offence in a 24-month period — the first having occurred during the Adelaide Test against Australia on December 7, 2024.
Siraj admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, making a formal hearing unnecessary.
According to the ICC’s disciplinary system, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, those are converted into suspension points. Two suspension points equal a ban from one Test match, two ODIs, or two T20Is, whichever comes first.
The incident comes as tensions rise in the closely fought five-match Test series, currently tied 1-1, with both teams battling for dominance at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.
