Fire Breaks Out in Lahore Airport Cargo Area Amid Heavy Rainfall

Jul 16, 2025

Lahore – July 16, 2025: A sudden fire erupted late last night in the cargo section of Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, causing significant property damage but fortunately resulting in no loss of life, according to rescue authorities.

The incident occurred during ongoing monsoon rains that have battered the city, and officials suspect the weather may have played a role in triggering the blaze.

According to Rescue 1122, the fire began in the cargo warehouse and quickly spread throughout the storage facility. Emergency services responded swiftly, deploying at least eight fire engines to contain the flames.

Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 90 minutes before bringing it under control. No injuries or fatalities were reported, but goods worth millions of rupees were reportedly destroyed.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though initial suspicions link it to rain-induced electrical short circuits or other infrastructural vulnerabilities exposed by the ongoing storm activity.

Airport authorities, in coordination with civil aviation and emergency response teams, have launched a comprehensive inquiry to determine the exact cause and evaluate the extent of the financial and operational damage.

This incident comes amid a wave of rain-related emergencies reported across Lahore and central Punjab, straining infrastructure and triggering widespread response efforts.
