Pakistan Railways Achieves Self-Reliance in Railway Coach Production
Islamabad – July 16, 2025:
In a significant stride towards industrial self-sufficiency, Pakistan Railways has successfully achieved self-reliance in coach manufacturing, completing the first phase of its local production initiative at the Railway Carriage Factory.
As part of this milestone, eight AC Standard coaches have been indigenously assembled and are set to be deployed with the upgraded Pak Business Express, which will resume operations on July 19, 2025.
The revamped service will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marking a historic moment for Pakistan’s rail sector as it transitions from reliance on imported rolling stock to domestically manufactured solutions.
Railway officials noted that this development is a core component of the department’s modernization and cost-efficiency agenda, aimed at improving infrastructure, reducing foreign dependency, and boosting local industry.
The successful completion of this project is expected to generate employment opportunities, encourage technological advancement, and revitalize the national transportation network, ultimately contributing to long-term economic growth.
