Raging Monsoon Causes Widespread Destruction in Himachal Pradesh

Jul 16, 2025

Shimla, India – July 16, 2025: Himachal Pradesh is grappling with a severe monsoon crisis as relentless rains continue to wreak havoc across the northern Indian state. The official death toll has now reached 106, according to the latest report by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).

Out of the total fatalities, 62 deaths have been attributed to landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, accidental drownings, and electrocution—the primary consequences of this season’s destructive downpour. The remaining 44 victims succumbed to various other rain-related incidents, highlighting the widespread impact of the disaster.

The monsoon fury has left behind a trail of destruction. Key infrastructure—roads, power lines, water systems, schools, and hospitals—has sustained heavy damage. Many remote areas remain cut off, making rescue and relief operations more challenging.

Emergency services continue to operate around the clock in the worst-hit districts. Disaster management officials have urged residents to stay indoors, avoid flood-prone areas, and follow official advisories closely.

Meanwhile, meteorological departments are keeping a close watch on weather developments as the region braces for the possibility of further rainfall in the coming days.

This year’s monsoon season is being seen as one of the most devastating in recent memory, prompting urgent calls for long-term infrastructure planning and climate resilience strategies.
