Interior Minister Naqvi Outlines Government Strategy on PTI Protest and National Issues

Jul 18, 2025

Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated on Friday that the government is fully prepared to handle any potential protest by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) scheduled for August 5. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, Naqvi noted that PTI itself appears unprepared at this stage.

He emphasized that the Federal Constabulary Force will soon receive perks and benefits on par with other law enforcement agencies. Additionally, specialized units such as anti-riot and special protection squads are being established within the Federal Constabulary to improve response capabilities.

On the issue of Afghan nationals, Naqvi clarified that Pakistan is deporting only undocumented individuals who have been residing in the country illegally for years.

Addressing concerns about damage to a newly-constructed interchange caused by recent rains, the Minister explained that the Sui Gas department had opened utility lines near the site post-construction, leading to the issue—which has since been resolved. He added that opposition parties were alarmed by the government’s speed and efficiency in executing development projects. Naqvi also announced that the next infrastructure project would be completed within 30 days.

Responding to media speculation, Naqvi refused to engage in political propaganda and condemned the spread of misinformation, particularly fake news regarding President Asif Ali Zardari.

Touching on environmental concerns, the Minister stated that Islamabad’s green belts are being expanded to counter the anticipated rise in smog over the next three to four years. He revealed that the government is actively engaging international donors for assistance in controlling environmental hazards.

In relation to the disappearance of approximately 40,000 Pakistani pilgrims in Iraq, Naqvi announced that the Minister of State for Interior and the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will travel to Iraq to gather data and investigate the matter.

Naqvi also disclosed that work has officially commenced on the reconstruction of 27 police stations in Islamabad. Land has been allocated and funding approved, particularly for those stations previously situated on green belts. He assured that the capital will see brand-new police facilities by December this year.

Further, the Interior Minister revealed that action is being taken against 133 illegal housing societies operating in Islamabad.

Addressing the recent visa controversy, Naqvi categorically denied any involvement of Interior Ministry officials, clarifying that visa issuance is the responsibility of Pakistani embassies abroad. He also pointed out that Pakistani citizens frequently travel to Gulf countries in pursuit of employment and visas.
