
Next Year’s Movie Sold Out a Year Early
Los Angeles: Early tickets for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey have sold out a year ahead of release, possibly the longest pre-sale in cinema history.
The film, set to release on July 17, 2026, is based on Homer’s famous Greek epic, and stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, who embarks on a perilous journey home after the Trojan War.
The film ‘The Odyssey’ is being described as the biggest project of Christopher Nolan so far and the shooting of this film is still going on. This film is being shot in 1570 format, 1570 format is considered to be the largest and highest resolution film format in the world.
On Thursday, IMAX began selling tickets for this film in advance in 26 specific cinemas around the world, these are the cinemas that have the facility to show the film in 1570 format.
These limited showings will take place from 16 to 19 July 2026 and due to the film’s potential long run, only one showing per day has been scheduled in each cinema.
Ticket sales for the film have been phenomenal, with IMAX Melbourne selling 1,800 tickets in one night, while most tickets in the US sold out within an hour.
All tickets at London’s famous BFI IMAX and Science Museum IMAX were also sold out immediately, while these tickets are being resold on the online black market for 300 to 400 US dollars.
