
Torrential rains wreak havoc in South Korea, 18 people killed in various accidents
Seoul: (Web Desk) The death toll from heavy rainstorms that have been ongoing in South Korea for several days has reached 18, while 9 people are missing.
According to the international news agency, the South Korean Ministry of Interior has confirmed that most of the deaths were due to floods and landslides caused by the rains.
Across the country, 1,999 government and 2,238 private properties, including farms and houses, have been damaged. Although the intensity of the rain has decreased, the National Meteorological Service has issued a heatwave warning in view of the threat of a severe heat wave.
The Gapyeong area of the capital Seoul recorded 173 millimeters of rain over 17 hours, the highest rainfall in a single day in the country’s history. The previous record was 156.3 millimeters of rain in September 1998.
