Former Chief Justice who delivered verdict in Sheikh Mujib murder case arrested

Dhaka:Former Chief Justice who delivered the verdict in the Sheikh Mujib assassination case has been arrested.

According to the news agency, former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haq was arrested from his house in Dhan Mandi area of Dhaka. ABM Khairul Haq was arrested in 3 cases including sedition and fraud.
The operation was carried out by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, after which he was transferred to the DB headquarters on Minto Road for interrogation.

Joint Commissioner of the Detective Branch, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, confirmed his arrest and said that several cases have been registered against him.
ABM Khairul Haq was appointed the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh in 2010 but retired the following year upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 67.

During his judicial tenure, he delivered several important and historic judgments, including those on the abolition of the caretaker government system, the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution, and cases related to the protection of rivers around the capital Dhaka.
After retirement, he was made the chairman of the Law Commission in 2013 and was reappointed to this position several times, however, when the Awami League government fell last year, he resigned from his position on August 13.
