WHO Warns of Risk of New Global Pandemic, Urges Emergency Preparedness
Geneva (Health Desk) – The World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a stark warning that the world may be at risk of facing another serious global pandemic, urging nations to implement emergency preparedness measures without delay.
In a recent high-level briefing, WHO officials emphasized that the current global health infrastructure remains vulnerable and underprepared for a rapidly spreading new disease outbreak. The organization has called on all countries to strengthen surveillance systems, improve early detection mechanisms, and ensure stockpiles of essential medical supplies.
“We must not wait for the next crisis to act. The time to prepare is now,” said WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Pandemic threats are real, and without global coordination, the consequences could be catastrophic.”
The warning comes amid rising concerns over outbreaks of new viruses in different regions, along with the re-emergence of certain zoonotic diseases due to climate change and increased human-animal interaction.
WHO has urged governments to invest in health systems, coordinate cross-border responses, and ensure rapid vaccine development capabilities are in place.
