France Defends Move to Recognize Palestinian State Amid Global Debate

Jul 25, 2025

Paris: The French government has firmly defended its position on recognizing the State of Palestine, calling it a necessary step toward achieving lasting peace in the Middle East. Amid growing global support for Palestinian statehood, France reiterated that its stance aligns with international law and the two-state solution.

In an official statement, the French Foreign Ministry said, “Recognition of Palestine is not a gesture against Israel, but a commitment to peace and justice. A viable Palestinian state, living side by side with Israel in peace and security, is the only sustainable path forward.”

The move has drawn both praise and criticism globally. While several EU countries and international human rights organizations have lauded France’s stand, Israel has expressed strong opposition, calling it premature and harmful to negotiations.

France’s position adds pressure on other Western nations to reconsider their policies on Palestine, especially amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and continued calls for a ceasefire.

Analysts believe that France’s recognition could signal a shift in European diplomacy and potentially pave the way for broader recognition of Palestinian statehood within the European Union.
