Two Pakistani Athletes Reported Missing Ahead of World University Games in Germany
Berlin:Two members of Pakistan’s university-level contingent for the 2025 World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, have been reported missing, sources close to the delegation revealed on Friday.
According to preliminary reports, the two athletes — whose names have not yet been officially disclosed — were last seen at the Athletes’ Village earlier this week. Team officials stated that both individuals left the premises on a personal errand and failed to return by nightfall. Repeated attempts to contact them have remained unsuccessful, and their mobile phones are switched off.
The Pakistani team management has notified German local authorities and the Pakistani consulate in Berlin. A formal search operation has been launched in coordination with local police.
“All relevant departments have been informed, and we are cooperating with local officials to ensure the athletes are located and returned safely,” a spokesperson for the Pakistan University Sports Federation (PUSF) said.
This incident has raised concerns over the safety protocols and travel policies of international sports delegations. It also draws parallels to previous incidents where athletes from various countries disappeared during or after international sports events.
