Shaheen Afridi Recalled as Pakistan Names Squad for US West Indies Series
Lahore, July 27, 2025 — Pakistan has named its squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of the West Indies, with star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi making a much-anticipated return to both the T20I and ODI sides. The high-stakes tour kicks off July 31 in Florida, marking a rare bilateral series hosted in the United States.
T20I Leg in the USA
The three-match T20I series will be played at Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida on:
July 31
August 2
August 3
The ODI series follows shortly after in Trinidad and Tobago.
Afridi Returns After Surprise Omission
Afridi, who led Lahore Qalandars to their third PSL title earlier this year with 19 wickets, was left out of Pakistan’s last two T20 series against Bangladesh — a move that sparked criticism. His recall is seen as a key strategic shift as the team builds momentum toward the Champions Trophy 2025.
Pace Attack Reinforced
Haris Rauf returns to the T20 squad after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during his stint in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the US.
Hasan Ali, another experienced pacer, is included in both squads, offering further depth to Pakistan’s fast bowling reserves.
Abbas Afridi and Salman Mirza, who played against Bangladesh, have been dropped.
New Faces and Key Selections
Hasan Nawaz, who made headlines with Pakistan’s fastest T20 century earlier this year, has been included in the ODI squad as the only uncapped player.
Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz continue to provide balance as all-rounders in both formats.
Leadership Update
Salman Ali Agha retains the T20I captaincy, a role he assumed earlier in 2025.
Mohammad Rizwan steps in as ODI captain, signaling a potential leadership transition post-World Cup 2023.
