Islamabad – July 27, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called on all provincial governments, including those of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), to extend full cooperation to the federal government in its efforts to transition Pakistan toward a digitized and cashless economy.

Presiding over a weekly review meeting on digital and cashless economic transformation at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Monday, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the digital economy initiative must be accelerated through close coordination with provincial administrations and institutions to meet implementation timelines effectively.

He further stressed that stakeholder consultations should become a permanent and meaningful feature of the federal government’s digitization roadmap.

A Vision for Transparency and Public Convenience

Highlighting the significance of a digital economy, the Prime Minister noted that digitization is essential for enhancing transparency, efficiency, and convenience for the public. He reiterated that the goal is to offer these benefits without imposing additional costs on citizens.

PM Shehbaz added that the government is proactively advancing the policy framework to support digital payments and electronic fund transfers, signaling a broader commitment to financial technology (fintech) integration.

During the meeting, senior officials briefed the Prime Minister on the current status of key institutional developments. It was reported that both the National Digital Commission and the Pakistan Digital Authority have been formally established, with necessary rules and regulations already framed.

The appointment process for the chairperson and board members of the Pakistan Digital Authority is now in its final stages, ensuring that institutional leadership will soon be in place to drive the implementation of the federal digital agenda.

As Pakistan moves toward a more integrated and modern economy, the Prime Minister’s directives mark a renewed push for intergovernmental alignment and digital reform, with a sharp focus on efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centric governance.
