
Australia, heavy snowfall breaks two-decade record
YANBRA (Web Desk) Heavy snowfall in the eastern region of Australia has broken a two-decade record, with several accidents also reported. According to Australian media, roads, vehicles and houses were covered with snow after the rains, hundreds of vehicles were stuck in floods. Thousands of homes were left without power while rescue operations are underway.
Parts of the Northwest Territories have seen their heaviest snowfall in 20 years. A region in Queensland state has seen its first snowfall in 10 years.
Meteorologists from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology said several areas in New South Wales received up to 16 inches of snow on Saturday, the heaviest snowfall since the mid-1980s.
The New South Wales state emergency service said that heavy rain has fallen in many areas and more than 1,445 accidents have been reported so far, more than 100 vehicles are stuck in the snow, and many buildings have been damaged by the wind.
