Islamabad: 7 murders, 43 incidents of street crime reported in a month
ISLAMABAD:(Web News)Despite the claims of the police, the crime rate in the federal capital has increased to an alarming level. Law enforcement agencies seem to be completely unsuccessful in controlling crime.
According to the latest data, 43 incidents of street crime were reported in Islamabad in just one month, in which citizens lost valuable mobile phones, cash and gold ornaments.
During the same period, 41 incidents of robbery and banditry have also cast a question mark on the performance of the police. A total of 105 motorcycles and 29 vehicles were stolen during the month, while 10 motorcycles and 3 vehicles were snatched at gunpoint.
In addition, 7 people were killed in the federal capital within a month. The police have registered cases in all these incidents, but arresting the accused remains a challenge.
Another example of the contradiction between the claims and performance of the Islamabad police came to light in Tarnol police station, where cases are not being registered to show a low crime rate. On July 25, a motorcycle and mobile phone were snatched from a citizen at gunpoint in the Tarnol police station area, but despite the victim’s repeated insistence, the police did not register an FIR.
According to the citizen, the police officer said on the first day that he should come tomorrow and take the copy, but when he went the next day, he was again denied. Despite the passage of several days, the case was not registered. The affected citizen has complained that the police station staff is clearly saying that the SHO has forbidden the registration of the case. According to the citizen, the police officers are not registering cases to show their performance to the higher-ups.
Citizens say that if the police adopt a similar approach of suppressing or concealing incidents, the criminals will be further emboldened and the lives and property of the public will become even more insecure.
