Islamabad police vandalize National Press Club, torture journalists

Islamabad:Protest demonstration outside the National Press Club under the auspices of the Azad Kashmir Public Action Committee, Islamabad Police entered the National Press Club, vandalized the cafeteria.

Islamabad Police also tortured journalists present in the cafeteria, the police also arrested and took away a Press Club employee.

According to Afzal Butt, President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, the officials of the Press Club were not contacted.Press Club officials and employees were tortured.Afzal Butt said that the police will have to answer for entering the Press Club, and will strongly protest against this police action.Islamabad Police have violated the sanctity of the National Press Club.

Karachi Press Club President Fazil Jamili has condemned police violence against journalists in Islamabad.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan condemned the police violence at the Press Club and called for an immediate inquiry into the incident of police violence at the Press Club.Action should be taken against those responsible for the violence.
