Faisalabad: Pakistan defeated South Africa by 2 wickets in a thrilling encounter in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Green Shirts achieved the target of 264 runs set by the Proteas for the loss of 8 wickets in the last over.
For Pakistan, Salman Ali Agha scored 62, Mohammad Rizwan scored 55 and top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman scored 45 to pave the way for victory for the national team. Saim Ayub was dismissed after scoring 39 runs, Mohammad Nawaz scored 9 and Babar Azam returned to the pavilion after scoring only 7 runs.
For South Africa, Langi Ngidi, Donovan Ferreira and Corbin Bosch took 2 wickets each, while George Linde and Bjorn Fortune took one wicket each.
Earlier, in the ODI match held at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, Pakistan won the toss and invited the visiting team to bat first. However, while batting first, the entire South African team was bowled out for 263 runs in the last over.
