PM Shehbaz Sharif, Canadian High Commissioner Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Islamabad: Ambassador Tariq Ali Khan, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Canada, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House this morning. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and the Foreign Secretary were also present on the occasion

The Prime Minister congratulated the High Commissioner on his appointment and expressed confidence that his tenure would further deepen the long-standing and friendly relations between Pakistan and Canada. He conveyed warm greetings for the Canadian leadership and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working together for stronger bilateral cooperation.

Highlighting mines and minerals as a key area of mutual interest, the Prime Minister noted that Barrick Gold’s participation in the Reko Diq project would serve as a milestone in Pakistan–Canada economic collaboration and a model for future partnerships.

The Canadian High Commissioner thanked the Prime Minister for the cordial welcome and reiterated his determination to enhance bilateral engagement, particularly in the fields of agriculture, energy, trade, investment, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the valuable contributions of the vibrant Pakistani diaspora in Canada, describing it as a strong bridge of friendship between the two countries.
