Two New Cities on PSL Radar: Faisalabad and Gilgit Likely Additions
LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set for a major expansion, as two new franchises are expected to be included in the tournament, with Faisalabad and Gilgit emerging as the most likely contenders for the new team names.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) sources, there is strong likelihood of consensus on adding franchises named after Faisalabad and Gilgit. The PCB had earlier shortlisted six potential names, which included Faisalabad, Gilgit, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Rawalpindi and Muzaffarabad.
The PCB has officially invited expressions of interest for the purchase of two new teams. Meanwhile, sources confirmed that the ongoing dispute between the PCB and Multan Sultans remains unresolved, adding a layer of complexity to the expansion process.
In a separate development, the PCB has sent valuation documents to five existing franchises. Following the valuation review, the PCB has also offered renewal opportunities to these five franchises.
As anticipation builds, the addition of two new teams is expected to reshape the competitive structure of the league, potentially increasing engagement and reach across new regions of Pakistan.
