7-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Struck by Hamilton Bus
HAMILTON:A seven-year-old boy has died after being hit by a city bus in Hamilton, police confirmed Thursday. The incident occurred around 1:12 p.m. ET near Emerald Street North and Wilson Street.
Paramedic commander Dave Thompson said the boy was transported to the hospital without vital signs and was later pronounced dead. Hamilton police Const. Trevor McKenna said the bus driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is being handled by the Collision Reconstruction Unit. Several passengers and witnesses were present at the time.
Neighbours described the area as dangerous. Jasmine Ashley said, “I feel terrible for the parents,” and highlighted the intersection’s limited visibility. Longtime resident Joe Silva noted that he had repeatedly urged city officials to make safety improvements, but accidents continued to occur.
Construction has been ongoing in the area for several months, including plans to add a pedestrian crossing at Emerald Street North. City officials said they could not comment on the specifics of the incident due to the ongoing police investigation and expressed condolences to the family.
