Sabrina Carpenter to star in musical Alice in Wonderland reboot under Hustlers director
(Web News)Sabrina Carpenter has officially landed a major Hollywood role in a new musical adaptation of the classic Alice in Wonderland.
The 26-year-old singer and actress will both act and sing in the big-budget Universal Pictures project, marking her first major studio film.
The movie will be directed by Lorene Scafaria, known for drawing an acclaimed performance from Jennifer Lopez in Hustlers.
Scafaria is also writing the screenplay for this latest take on Lewis Carroll’s iconic story, which has previously inspired the 1951 Disney cartoon, the 2010 live-action film starring Johnny Depp, and the 2016 sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass.
Sources described the film as a “passion project” for Carpenter, who will portray Alice as she falls down a rabbit hole into a fantastical world filled with whimsical, often bizarre creatures.
Fans can expect key moments from the novel, including the Mad Tea Party, a croquet match with the Queen of Hearts, and the climactic trial scene, all reimagined with a musical twist likely aimed at Generation Z audiences.
Carpenter, who began acting at age 12 on Law & Order: SVU, has steadily built an impressive acting resume.
She has appeared in Phineas and Ferb, Sofia the First, Orange Is the New Black, Austin & Ally, and starred in 72 episodes of Girl Meets World between 2014 and 2017.
More recently, she appeared in the films Emergency and Tall Girl 2 in 2022.
Carpenter has enjoyed notable success as a recording artist. Her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, has been a commercial hit, and she has been touring on her Short n’ Sweet tour, which has been a significant draw for fans.
The musical will combine Carpenter’s acting and singing talents, offering a fresh take on the beloved story for a contemporary audience.
While a release date has not yet been announced, anticipation is high for the project, which blends big-budget production, a pop icon lead, and the vision of an acclaimed director.
