Venezuela Begins Talks to Rebuild Diplomatic Ties with the United States
CARACAS: Venezuela’s government has launched an exploratory diplomatic process with the United States aimed at restoring diplomatic relations and possibly reopening embassies, state officials said Friday.
Under the interim leadership of Delcy Rodríguez—who took over after President Nicolás Maduro was captured last week in a dramatic U.S. military operation—Caracas confirmed that U.S. State Department officials traveled to Caracas to conduct technical and logistical assessments for a potential phased resumption of U.S. embassy operations.
In an official statement, the Venezuelan government said it has decided to initiate dialogue with Washington “with a view to reestablishing diplomatic missions in both countries.” Caracas also plans to send its own delegation to the United States to conduct reciprocal assessments.
