ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Thursday agreed that stronger cooperation between the federal and provincial governments is essential for addressing national challenges, improving public services, and maintaining law and order across the country.
The understanding was reached during a high-level meeting held in Islamabad, where both leaders discussed a wide range of issues including public security, inter-provincial coordination, narcotics control, and crime prevention.
Focus on Law and Order
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the security situation in Sindh, particularly in Karachi and other major urban centers. Discussions focused on strategies to combat criminal activities, strengthen policing efforts, and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies.
Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that national challenges require collective efforts and close cooperation among all institutions.
“Effective coordination and cooperation between the federation and provinces is the most effective way to deal with national challenges and resolve public issues,” he stated.
He added that all governments and institutions should work together to safeguard national interests and improve public welfare.
Crackdown on Drug Networks
A major portion of the meeting focused on efforts to eliminate narcotics trafficking and organized crime networks.
The leaders discussed ongoing operations against drug smugglers and reviewed measures aimed at strengthening anti-narcotics enforcement throughout Sindh.
Mohsin Naqvi assured the Sindh government of the federal government’s full support in combating drug trafficking and maintaining peace.
Praise for Sindh Police Operations
The interior minister congratulated the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies for their recent successful operations against dacoits and criminal groups operating in the province’s riverine “katcha” areas.
Naqvi praised the professionalism and bravery of the Sindh Police, acknowledging their efforts in restoring law and order under challenging circumstances.
“The Sindh Police has demonstrated remarkable courage, professionalism, and determination in maintaining peace and protecting citizens,” he said.
Action Against Organized Crime
The meeting comes amid intensified operations against criminal networks in Sindh.
Authorities recently arrested an alleged narcotics kingpin known as “Pinky” during a joint operation in Karachi. Investigators claim the suspect was involved in a sophisticated drug trafficking network that supplied narcotics to several major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Law enforcement agencies have since expanded their crackdown on organized drug distribution networks operating across the province.
Katcha Area Security Operations Continue
Officials also reviewed ongoing security operations in Sindh’s riverine belt, which has historically been used as a sanctuary by armed criminal gangs involved in kidnappings, extortion, and other serious crimes.
Recent operations involving Sindh Police, Punjab Police, and security agencies have led to multiple arrests and the surrender of several armed groups under a rehabilitation policy introduced by the Sindh government.
The initiative offers protection, rehabilitation, and livelihood support to militants willing to surrender their weapons and reintegrate into society.
Commitment to Public Safety
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, strengthening security institutions, and improving coordination between the federation and provinces.
Officials expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation would help address emerging security threats, combat organized crime, and improve the overall safety and well-being of citizens across Pakistan.
